Neben einer Führungsgruppe verfügen diese Inspektionen über Einsatzschiffe und Kontroll- und Streifenboote mit den dazugehörigen Besatzungen. Die Bundespolizei ist bereits Ende der achtziger Jahre dazu übergegangen, mehrere Besatzungen pro Schiff oder Boot vorzuhalten. Nur durch die im Vergleich zur Anzahl der Schiffe hohe Zahl von Besatzungen ist es möglich, für diese hochwertigen Einsatzmittel eine intensive Auslastung auf See zu erzielen. Die Flotte der Bundespolizei besteht aus sechs modernen, hochseetauglichen, komfortabel ausgestatteten und vielfältig einsetzbaren Patrouillenschiffen und acht Kontroll- und Streifenbooten. Die Einsatzschiffe sind mit ihren Besatzungen an 365 Tagen im Jahr, in mehrtägigen Einsätzen vor den deutschen Küsten in Nord- und Ostsee präsent. Der Einsatz der Kontroll- und Streifenboote erfolgt in mehrstündigen Streifenfahrten in küstennahen Bereichen der Ostsee. Die Überwachung auf See wird durch täglich stattfindende Flüge der navalisierten Hubschrauber vom Typ AS 322 L 1 Superpuma bzw. Bell 212 der Bundespolizeifliegerstaffel Fuhlendorf unterstützt. Zur Durchführung komplizierter und umfangreicher Ermittlungen auf See und zur Seeunfalluntersuchung verfügt die Bundespolizei See über eine Maritime Ermittlungs- und Fahndungseinheit, der auch Polizeitaucher angehören. Angehörige dieser Einheit sind bei allen Seeüberwachungsflügen als Ermittlungsbeamte mit an Bord der Hubschrauber. Im Direktionsbereich See in Neustadt werden alle für den maritimen Einsatz erforderlichen grundsätzlichen, taktischen, logistischen und technischen Fragestellungen bearbeitet. Beyond the German territorial sea the Federal Police Sea must prevent harmful environmental impacts and prosecute offences against the environment by German and foreign ships. In the field of fishery surveillance the Federal Police Sea supports the surveillance personnel of the Federal Institute for Food and Agriculture. The Federal Police Sea performs investigations on the high seas under the Maritime Security Investigation Act on behalf of the Federal Authority for Maritime Accident Investigations and helps the Federal Customs Service monitor cross-border cash transactions. In addition, the Federal Police Sea provides administrative assistance and helps the federal state police forces with their work. STRUCTURE AND RESOURCES OF THE FEDERAL POLICE SEA These operative tasks are performed by the three Federal Police Sea District Offices based in Cuxhaven, Neustadt and Warnemünde. In addition to a command group the district offices have police ships as well as inspection and patrol boats with the appurtenant crews at their disposal. The Federal Police already started providing several crews per ship or boat in the late 1980s. Only with a – compared to the number of vessels – large number of crews is it possible to intensively utilise the capacities of these high-quality resources at sea. The fleet of the Federal Police consists of six modern sea-going and versatile patrol ships with all modern conveniences and eight inspection and patrol boats. The vessels are present with their crews 365 days a year, in multi-day assignments off the German coasts of the North and Baltic Sea. The inspection and patrol boats perform patrol voyages lasting several hours in near-shore areas of the Baltic Sea. Maritime surveillance is supported by daily flights of the navalised AS 322 L 1 Superpuma and Bell 212 helicopters of the Federal Police Flying Squadron in Fuhlendorf.
