197 Overhead Contact Line 114 (2016) Heft 4 New designs of cantilevers and accessories for contact lines in Poland Grzegorz Kiesiewicz, Tadeusz Knych, Paweł Kwa´sniewski, Kraków (PL); Artur Rojek, Warszawa (PL) In Poland a new design of a cantilevers and accessories for DC 3,0 kV overhead contact lines was developed and mechanically tested in the laboratory and in the field. Together with new components and contact wires made of copper-silver alloy the cantilever design will improve the contact lines on frequently negotiated lines. The tests proved that the new cantilever and the accessories comply with the relevant standards. The cantilevers have been in service since 2014. Les consoles sont utilisées depuis 2014. 1 Introduction Properly designed and installed catenaries provide high-performance power supply, which directly de- termines the speed and reliability of people’s and cargo’s rail transport. Due to the rail infrastructure’s and contact lines’ long operation period damage may occur if the installation would not be main- tained adequately. The damage could lead difficul- ties and delays of the train traffic. The railway overhead contact line can be divided into three basic component groups: • support structures • catenary wires, contact wires and their accessories • electrical and mechanical connection elements Speed and reliability of the railway transport may be guaranteed when each contact line compo- nent has features as required by the system. In the last few years two modern overhead catenaries were implemented in Poland. Their designations are YC120-2CS150 and YC150-2CS150. Trains can move flawlessly at up to 250 km/h under them [1; 2; 3]. Two new components formed the precondition for their use in the normal operation: • First, modern contact wires made from copper- silver alloy. Its resistance against abrasive wear and the heat resistance is much higher than that of currently used CuETP copper wires. • Second, modern high conductive and high re- sistant accessories made from CuNi2Si alloy [4]. • Furthermore, in last years new light supporting structures for poles and portals were designed and developed to production. They have high partial factors with a controlled destruction area and were dedicated to the new contact line types [5]. The last group of the contact line elements, which were never included in research work leading to their thorough modernization are the overhead contact line cantilevers with catenary wires consti- tuting conductive elements and support structures connections. Currently the cantilever elements are produced in Poland from simple sections – pipes, brackets, channel sections – made of structural steel S235JR. This steel is characterized by low corrosion resist- ance [6] and the only corrosion protection of the
